Russia won the bronze medal at this year’s tournament, and Shen (BOS) played an important role scoring 3 goals and 1 assist while playing on both the power play and the penalty kill. The third-generation Chinese-Russian was also relied upon as a faceoff specialist, posting a 61.47 faceoff percentage, which was good for fifth in the tournament.
Shen’s highlight of the tournament came during the marquee New Year’s Eve preliminary game against Canada when he scored a highlight-reel game-winning goal in the third period. Number 16 in the video below, Shen picked up the puck at his own blueline and cut through the Canadian defense to slide it past goaltender Mikey DiPietro (VAN).
Shen was scoreless through the medal rounds, but was relied upon in the faceoff circle and on special teams as Russia beat Switzerland for the bronze medal after losing to eventual silver medalists USA in the semi-finals.
