The Japanese U16 team won gold in the 2020 Youth Olympic Games, defeating Sweden 4-1 for the women’s ice hockey title. They made history as the first Asian team to win gold at an Olympic hockey tournament.

Japan’s top line of Makoto Ito, Hina Shimomukai, and Minami Kamada were unstoppable and were the 3 highest scorers of the tournament with a combined 14 goals and 28 points in just 4 games. Ito led all scorers with 5 goals and 12 points.
